Description: Often seen in Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN), arise as a consequence of immune system involvement and can have myriad health consequences. Both CIDP and MMN are characterized by complex presentations and frequent misdiagnoses. CIDP shows gradual peripheral nerve demyelination, leading to weakness and sensory loss, while MMN presents with asymmetric weakness devoid of sensory complications. With an array of treatment options, managing polyneuropathy in CIDP and MMN can be challenging. This collaborative platform serves as a unifying space for healthcare providers, facilitating the exchange of insights and elevating the standard of care for patients affected by CIDP and MMN. I am the James F. Howard Distinguished Professor, Chief of Division of Neuromuscular Medicine, and Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After residency and fellowship, I was faculty at the Johns Hopkins University for 32 years during which I served as the Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs, Director of Johns Hopkins neurology outpatient center, Director of Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship, Director of Neuromuscular Medicine fellowship, and Director of Neuromuscular Division at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. I have served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Neurology Board, Chair of Neuromuscular section of American Academy of Neurology, Board of Directors and Secretary of American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. My research focus has been on Wallerian Degeneration in Human Nerves; defining clinical, electrophysiological, and IVIG responsiveness of Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN); and chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathies (CIPN) from taxol, vincristine, suramin, thalidomide, and bortezomib. I have authored 120 publications. I have patent for Total Neuropathy Score (TNC©), an important tool for establishing the severity of CIPN. I am actively involved in trials of myasthenia gravis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, CIDP, and amyloid neuropathy. I have received numerous awards and honors throughout his career including Frank R. Ford Outstanding Teaching Award John Hopkins University School of Medicine, American Brain Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award (2018) and Distinguished Researcher Award from American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (2020).
